Get Involved

First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh has been reaching out from the heart of this city into the hearts of this city for more than 230 years. There is a great heritage here, and we believe there is a place here for you to serve and grow in your relationship with Christ. So read on, make a choice and get involved in God's work!

Christian Education

Sunday School at First Church gets started each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Adults can choose from Fellowship, Men's Fellowship or Discipleship classes. Also offered are Young Adults, Youth, Children's, and Couples and Families classes. For complete information about Sunday School classes, please call the church office at 412-471-3436.

Youth and Children's Ministries

The First Church Youth Ministry is geared to teens in grades 7 through 12, and provides opportunities to introduce young people to the message of the gospel, to grow in their walk with Jesus, to gather with other Christian teens and to serve others. For information, please call the church office at 412-471-3436.

Our Children's Ministry for 3-year-olds through sixth grade starts each Sunday on the ground floor with Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. During the worship service, children may join their parents in the sanctuary through the Children's Sermon, after which they return to the ground floor for "Children in Worship" and "Children's Church." Preschoolers may remain on the ground floor for play time. Childcare for infants and toddlers is available during Sunday School classes and the service on the ground floor. For additional details, please call the church office at 412-471-3436.

New Disciples/New Members Class

Throughout the year, New Disciples/New Members Classes are scheduled for First Church visitors who have prayerfully considered membership with this church. Classes meet on three consecutive Sunday mornings in room 25/26 in the chapel, and explore spiritually what it means to be an active, high energy, wholly committed disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ, and include personal testimonies from other members of the church. For more information, please call the church office at 412-471-3436.

Faith Forums

These regular small-group studies at homes in the Pittsburgh area foster Christian relationships within the church and provide for outreach to the citizens of Pittsburgh with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For detailed information on the times and locations of Faith Forums, contact the church office at 412-471-3436.

Music Ministry

Praise the Lord with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.
Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.
For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does.

Psalm 33:2-4

The Choir of First Church is an adult choir comprised of dedicated volunteer and professional singers from the greater Pittsburgh area. The choir sings two anthems each Sunday and presents special worship services and concerts during the program year. Teenagers who are serious about making music are also welcome to sing with the choir. Rehearsals are held from September to June on Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the third-floor choir room. Basic musical ability and the willingness to commit are important in this choir. Repertoire is mostly classical and spans from early Renaissance motets to contemporary works and spirituals. Please contact Andrew Scanlon (ascanlon@fpcp.org) for additional information.

During the Tuesday Noon Boost services held from September through May, an adult choral group leads this informal mid-week service. The singers rehearse from noon to 12:20 p.m., and the service starts at 12:25 p.m. Tuesdays. There is ample room for additional singers and special music at the Tuesday Noon Boost. For additional information or to volunteer your time and talent, contact Andrew Scanlon at the church office (412-471-3436 or ascanlon@fpcp.org).
