THE CHURCH AND YOUR WEDDING

First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh is interested in your wedding because, in Christ’s name, we are interested in you.  Every culture, and almost every religion, has marriage rites surrounded by a host of social traditions.  Essentially, a Christian wedding is a covenant-making ceremony in which the two of you not only declare your love for each other, but engage in confessing publicly your common faith in Jesus Christ and pray for God’s blessing on your new relationship as husband and wife.

Your wedding ceremony is a service of worship.  It reflects your personal faith and love in Jesus Christ, as well as your love for each other.  Therefore, your pre-marital counseling with our Pastor will involve personal discussion about your relationship with Jesus Christ, both as two individuals and as a couple.

As a rule, only members of First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh and their children may use the Church building for weddings.  Exceptions to this policy for Christian weddings of nonmembers require the approval of both the Senior Pastor and the Session of First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh.  Please make your request in writing to the Senior Pastor prior to scheduling your wedding plans and prior to returning the attached forms.  If approved, there will be an additional $500 charge for the use of the Church building along with the fees for the time and effort of the Church staff.  There is no charge for the use of the Church building for members and their children.  However, fees are charged for the time and effort of the Church staff, who are dedicated to making your wedding a special day for you.

As a rule, no wedding may be held in the Church on Sundays, during Holy Week, Memorial Day weekend, Thanksgiving (including that weekend), Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, Independence Day, or Labor Day (including the weekends when these holidays fall on a Friday or Monday).  Exceptions to this policy may be requested in writing to the Senior Pastor.
