Membership at First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh

Members of First Presbyterian Church come from all over the area.  While many live downtown, many others come a long way to get here.  We regularly welcome visitors from across the country and around the world.  If you are ready to play a more active role in the life of the church and the city, we encourage you to become a member of the church.

Becoming a member makes you a part of something larger than yourself.  When you join First Church, you are part of a vibrant community focused on grace and making a difference in the heart of the city and beyond.

The first step in becoming a member is participating in a New Members Class, which is taught by a pastor and lay leaders of the church.

This informal class will help you:

  • Grasp the amazing Good News of Jesus Christ and explore what it means to be His follower.
  • Consider the gifts God has given you and how you can use them to serve God and others.
  • Learn about what First Church is doing in the world and how you can take part.
  • Build relationships and find support.
  • Appreciate the heritage of this unique congregation.

At the end of each class, you’ll be extended an invitation to join the church.  After an informal meeting with the session, you’ll be invited to officially join during a morning worship service.

Whether you are new to the faith, transferring from another church, making a recommitment to the faith, or temporarily living in the area, there is a place for you here!

New member classes are held periodically throughout the year.  For more information, please call the church office, 412-471-3436, or send an e-mail to mjsnyder@fpcp.org.
