March is Missions Month!

2012 is the 175th Anniversary of the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions which began in our church. Mission is at the heart of who we are now and who we will be in the future.

Here is some of what’s in store:

Sunday, March 11th, First Church missionaries Jonathan and Deborah Bourbeau, church planters in Latvia, will be here to speak during Sunday School and worship.

Saturday, March 17th, members will have the opportunity to take part in a local mission project. Details to follow.

Sunday, March 18th, a special worship service will send us into the streets of Pittsburgh to pray for the city. After a short prayer walk, we’ll come back to share our experiences over a meal. Those who choose not to walk will be invited to write notes to the missionaries we support.

Friday and Saturday, March 23rd and 24th, World Mission Initiative Conference at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. This year, instead of our usual mission conference, we invite everyone to attend this outstanding event at the Seminary in Highland Park. The church will cover the cost for everyone who wants to attend! The conference theme is "Relevant Church in a Changing World." Look for information on how to register in the weeks ahead. Sunday, March 25th, Mission Sunday at the church. Guest preacher is the Rev. Dr. Hunter Farrell, Director of the General Assembly Mission Council World Mission. Before and after the service we’ll host our annual Mission Fair.
